Junior Academic Editor (Grade 1)

Description:

  • Job purpose – Junior Academic Editors serve as a link between Academics and other teams in Interactive, ensuring that no work leaves the team which is not ready to be used for production and delivery

  • Job dimensions (e.g. responsibilities for managing budgets or staff) – Junior Academic editors edit all academic writing relating to academic, non-academic and professional programmes;

  • Reporting: Junior Academic Editors report to the Academic Lead;

  • Role of department – the Academic team is in charge of writing/updating/IVing academic content of modules, including taught content, assessments, discussions, etc. Also among this team’s responsibilities are marking, supervision of dissertations and teaching. Academics must work closely with Support and E&A, and play a role as well in assisting the organization as needed in the development of new partnerships;

  • Key result areas – Junior Academic editors must ensure that work which leaves the Academic team requires no further editing, and therefore must have an excellent eye for detail and ability to work well with language and the people involved in writing the various types of work produced by the team;

  • Assignment and review (who allocates and monitors work) – Academic work assigned or confirmed by Academic Lead or by Programme Leaders. Responsibilities of Junior Academic Editors are confirmed by Academic Lead, who also monitors and reviews their performance together with Programme Leaders;

  • Communication and working relationships (internal and external) – Junior Academic Editors communicate with Programme Leaders and the Academic Lead, various members of Support, E&A and E-learning;

  • The most challenging part of the job – Junior Academic Editors requires very good organizational skills and ability to multi-task, as well as the ability to work on tight deadlines. They must also maintain a broad knowledge of academic areas relevant to the taught contents of programmes and be able to work with language across all the subject areas dealt with by Interactive.


Responsibilities:

  • Quality assuring on a daily basis the correctness of language in learning materials

  • Formatting and editing materials ready for delivery

  • Following up with content creators to resolve inconsistencies in materials provided

  • Prioritizing and scheduling content creation in the work pipeline

  • Actively engaging in the creation of learning materials

  • Administrating draft and final learning materials on central system

  • Reviewing study platforms on virtual learning system

  • Visualising all videos scripts according to brand guidelines


Key Skills & Requirements:

  • Strong English language background (editorial/proofreading and copywriting experience)

  • Experience with Project Management is an advantage

  • Computer literacy (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

  • Ability to work proactively, in a fast paced commercial environment

  • Ability to set and meet deadlines and achieve goals

  • Excellent planning, organisational and analytical skills
